GnR DISPATCH / ISSUE 001

Nearly identical stack.
A different reach.

WILLIAM / GnR EDITORIAL · OCTOBER 16, 2026 · EDITORIAL PREVIEW

You like the fit of your current road bike. The next bike has almost the same stack. Does that make it a match?

Consider two published charts: the Trek Domane SL Gen 3, using Trek’s 2022 archive, in size 60; and the current published Cervélo Caledonia-5 chart in size 61.

Caledonia-5 / 61630 mm405 mm

The frame front end is almost the same height, but frame reach is meaningfully different. That deserves a closer look before choosing a size.

The question to ask next

“Where will my saddle and hands end up with the actual parts on this bike?” Frame reach does not include stem length, handlebar reach or control position. A different cockpit can change the result. Matching the saddle position also needs its own check.

Record the setup you use today, including saddle height and setback, stem length and angle, headset spacers, handlebar reach and hood position. Compare the complete candidate setup and its adjustment limits. A test ride or fit review can resolve questions the frame chart cannot.

Your five-minute bike-shopping task

Find the exact chart for your current bike. Save its year, frame size, stack and reach. Run it through GnR, then open “Why this match” for each alternative. Use those differences to decide which bikes deserve a deeper look.

A shortlist is a research aid. These two frame charts are not proof that either bike fits a particular rider. The 2022 Domane chart is not an assumed match for every earlier Domane.
